Re:Why (pt1/2)

To paraphrase from elsewhere, if we know why we know who. When your closest associates believe they have good reason to kill you... anyway.

Three possibilities: some of it depends on who knew Ari was dying. IIRC it was Petros Ivanov, and not a soul else, so Giraud shouldn't have been aware that Ari was on the decline. Which is a pity for this sort of thing; one could construct a lovely theory about Giraud killing Ari I to upset her plans for who had a hand in raising (and so controlling) Ari II. Especially if he figured the possibility of Ari throwing Justin Warrick into the project; why, killing Ari almost becomes a defense of her replicate from The Warrick Influence (tm).

Unfortunately, Giraud didn't know Ari was dying. And the gossip-pool is one medical doctor. So his motives get much hazier and speculative.

I like B because it's a chain of mistakes, which is ironic in an environment as tightly controlled as Reseune. But it suggests that Abban can seriously misinterpret Giraud's statements or wishes and then not screw up for another 20-ish years. One can almost construct a scenario where Abban kills Ari and Giraud spends the next 20 years trying to clean up Abban's tape, and failing - but someone should've noticed.

I'm thinking that Denys mostly influenced Abban though Giraud, but I could be wrong. And - Giraud's not the Special, Denys is. So maybe Denys could get around Giraud, but it makes no sense for Denys to want Ari dead: I would think he'd want as many bright minds alive and giving him an echo as he could get.

C has the same narrative/aesthetic appeal as B, and seems sufficiently close to B (from my PoV) that they can mostly be accepted or rejected on similar grounds.
