I just finished OMW, and jkling is currently reading it. I found it to be a quick read, light and fluffy mil-porn SF. I liked it enough to read the sequel.
Krakauer's account of the 1996 events on Everest was fascinating. As you might expect, there are several books written about that topic. I've read The Climb by Anatoli Boukreev, and Left for Dead by Beck Weathers. Still to read: Touching My Father's Soul by Jamling Tenzing Norgay (son of Tenzing Norgay, who summitted Everest with Edmund Hillary).
