Labor Day Weekend At Rest

Even though I am not a fan of TV news, I think C-SPAN radio is the best morning talk show of the week. No, I don't pretend to understand it either. Also, I sort of want to remix C-SPAN broadcasts of pretty much everything to Justin Timberlake's "Sexyback", but I think that was the pre-caffeine dreamstate talking.

I had a great weekend, encompassing my roommate's 6 AM flight to Mexico, seeing my grandparents - my grandmother is going to be eighty this October, and she's the young one! - seeing [profile] hourglasscreate, seeing bio!J from college - and then I had to go to work and fill out my midyear self-evaluation. Cue existential angst and a yearning for retail therapy by way of a PC for my grandparents. However, I refuse to inflict Vista, or XP and Win7 upgrade shenanigans, on my hapless grandparents. Fortunately, the evaluation is one page, or I might've done something dramatic and stupid at newegg.

I am behind on my August booklog, which I attribute to some really uninspring August reading. The next time someone hears me say, "summer reading? Maybe I should try the classics!" remind me of this conversation. I think novels like Camus's The Plague are a lot more interesting if you read them with other people. I was very distracted by questions about French grammar leaking into English language prose, but this is neither the time nor the place.

Speaking of - if I organized a book club, who would come? I want to talk sf/f/speculative fiction novels, and my current options are not scratching my itch. I don't know if, say, a Rockville coffee-and-book discussion group is feasible, but I'd love to hash it out in comments.
