February Reading: None!

To my infinite shame, I didn't finish a single non-school reading in February. This may be because I now know way to much about Stargate: Atlantis fandom. Let this entry stand as a testament to my disappointment in my reading choices, and my inability to understand that crack is a drug, and not a fanfic genre. Also, as far as SGA goes, het is the new slash. Sally forth and write some smokin' [male character]/[female character], people. By which I do not mean gender screwiness. Also, gen still trumps all shippyness.

Fortunately, I've already finished one real novel this month, so March will be at least a little better than February. If you consider Napoleonic Wars, Now With Dragons, to be an improvement.

I've been reading the occasional SGA crackfic and I don't even watch the show, for crying out loud. I just have an inability to put down wacky fics.

As for the book you have just read, two questions: Is it good? and Is it slashy? (the two are not the same question.)

Well, yes. What's kind of sad is when [livejournal.com profile] sga_fusion can't make you blink, especially the Pullman/SGA crossover. Definitely time to back away from the nice fandom and get back to reading novels. Or my textbooks!

Slash does not equal good. Temeraire was solid, but a little too slick. I never predicted a plot twist entirely correctly, but I sort of knew where it was headed the entire time, and wasn't quite in love enough with the worldbuilding or characters to be able to lean back and go with it.

Has there been a SGA/Ranma 1/2 crossover yet? Because, really, doesn't every fandom have a Ranma 1/2 crossover? Even the ones that aren't supposed to?

As for the book, that's exactly what I needed to know. I'll probably end up reading it eventually, for the long view of eventually. My mother will like it if I don't. (I wasn't looking for slash. Really.)

I haven't seen a Ranma crossover (yet), but that might be because I haven't looked. There's one of (almost) everything else.

Also, not very slashy. Maybe later in the series, but it seems unlikely right now.

Um, since the book? Was written by a fanfic author?

figure that.

As for SGA. I consider crack fic a mental health accesory. Seriously.

Busted. Definitely time to find some nonfiction.
