You got the top pulled down, and the radio on, baby

Today I turned over the keys to the house and the car: I am done house-sitting. I'm going to miss driving so much! I also have gotten about six hours of sleep every single night for the last... two weeks? Three? Including weekends? Maybe I got seven a couple of - anyway. I also spent the evening unpacking enough that the bed is cleared and has clean sheets, as well as ignoring today's heat watches and advisories and broiling in the sun. So my cheer is manufactured, but would be sincere if I weren't dessicated and exhausted.

The awesome parts of today happened at strawberry festivals with [livejournal.com profile] ashcomp and wife J. I ransacked the clothing racks at the Adelpi meeting strawberry festival in staggering heat and walked off with an overflowing bag of clothes for $31, including a trench-style winter coat that must have cost more than $100 new. We had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] twistedchick, [livejournal.com profile] sgsguru, and their friend A, and after a bit more browsing drove to the Sandy Spring Museum strawberry festival, where I brought a tomato plant, Thai basil, and oregano for less than $5. Now I need a Home Depot run for pots and dirt. I also need to explain to my roommates that I'm turning the balcony into a potted kitchen garden (oops), and that this is a good thing.

I have roommates! Roommates I like! The household characters are 1.) me (whose vital stats you know), 2.) M (works downtown, volunteers a lot), 3.) V (recent M. Sci. / MBA grad looking to change jobs, complicated by need to swap student visa for work visa). Also the kitchen, which has skylights and porch access, and so is a character in its own right.

The kitchen was a particularly nice place to be as this evening's thunderstorms rolled in like the judgement of God, complete with post-deluge rainbows. I considered weeping with frustration as I tried to take pictures with my cell phone's 1.3 megapixel camera, then I considered asking [livejournal.com profile] tessfawcett for her old camera. Much better plan. Also, the old camera should be easier to pull pictures from than the camera: I have a new Samsung with bluetooth, a 2006 laptop with a PDA docking station and no bluetooth, and a two year old Dell Axim PDA with bluetooth. You see the technology daisy-chain coming.

At some point my apathetic appetite is going to kick in, and then I'm going to regret not snagging more empanadas on the way out of strawberry festival #2, or eating something other than a stale cherry turnover for dinner. Right now it's a fight between dehydration and exhaustion whether to poke at the fridge or make another try for a "nap". I'm theoretically exhausted, but wide awake with a minor headache. It's just too hot out, even with the AC: my skin feels like it's still glowing from today's heat exposure.

Nice that your housesitting is over with -- at least you can move in properly, hunh?

Sounds like you've a got a great place to live with fun people to live with -- Cool! Is it close to work?

Good luck with the plants. Amusing tidbit: British English "pot plants" = "potted plants" USA. ;-p

Proper move-in is going to be nice. Right now I'm sufficiently moved that I can get the essentials done, but my room still looks like a moving truck got upended on the floor. Which, well, essentially that's what happened. The only major disaster zone at this point is the kitchen, where I need to fit two sets of cookware, the silverware, and all my tupperware-esque stuff on the shelf and a half not already taken by my stuff. I sense a saucepan culling in my future.

Technically, I'm close enough to work I could possibly bike there, but not in this weather and not on these roads. Once it cools down, and I find a route that isn't an invitation to organ donation, I might try it.

"Pot plants": that's just not right. :-)

Yay for being moved & for major scorage! You've definitely earned a good rest & rehydration.
