Ah, actually, I'm much further along now, and yes, I do feel bad for Horseriver. Not that I like him or approve of his actions. But I do feel bad for the poor guy(s). :-)
I'm really enjoying the book a lot this time. The first read had too much for me to absorb all at once. I'm at the very last bit now and savoring it. :-D
