The City

I am totally in the "puppy love" phase of moving to a new and exciting place. Some early, mostly quite sappy reactions under the cut. )

I am terrified I'm going to find something I don't like about the city. Therefore it is essential I get myself employed so I can hate on work instead of life outside work. But that's tomorrow's problem: today I have hills to scramble around.

In a burst of enthusiasm, I walked all over the City today, with special emphasis on the Castro and Twin Peaks area, and now I am thinking I may never move again. Even lounging around reading the 100 page California DMV handbook hasn't restored me. I never thought I'd say this, but I can't believe these crunchy liberals are legislating morality. (Smoking in a car carrying a minor? Illegal.) I am a crunchy liberal. I go very well on salads, and with your vegan organic South Beach low-gluten party dip! I am usually not in favor of people smoking in my vicinity! And yet I do not think I approve of these shenanigans. I guess that in my old age (of 26) I am turning into whatever political stripe objects to using the law as a club to make people stop doing things they oppose. I mean, health care yes, that's in line with the "pursuit of happiness" thing, but sodomy laws on the right and cigarette laws on the left? Both options are objectionable.

Next on the list is postcards to my ex-coworkers, with arrows labeled BEACH and ME. I think they'll understand.
