I've given Stross two Hugo-nominated shots, and disliked both Glasshouse and "Lobsters". My assumptions are sufficiently different from Stoss's that reading his fiction quickly becomes a chore and not a joy. Fortunately, as you point out, diversity and new authors, so everyone gets something they like.
