How about the romance that emerges from a guy at a con asking a girl if he can touch her breasts, and her saying NO YOU ASSHOLE GO AWAY, and him learning something from it? I'd read that one. Well, if it wasn't boring.

I agree with your caveat about romance and genre, too. Doris Egan's Ivory series-of-three is probably more grounded in romantic tropes than I usually think about, but because the protagonist spends all three books dealing with other problems too, I find them comforting when I need fluffy rereads. Does that make any sense?
Agree about Mark and Kareen, though what I want is to see everybody ten years on; I'd like Miles and Ekaterin to work too.
Oh, Miles at 40 would be awesome. Possibly a little terrifying, but awesome. And still totally in love. :-)
