Because I have no shame, my favorite playlist this week:

01. Mary Chapin Carpenter - Passionate Kisses (3:23)
02. Wilson Phillips - Hold On (4:27)
03. Jennifer Saunders - Holding Out for A Hero (3:56)
04. Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart (5:28)
05. Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On (4:41)
06. Pat Benatar - We Belong (3:42)
07. Cher - (This Is A) Song For The Lonely (4:01)
08. Melissa Etheridge - Come To My Window (3:36)
09. Berlin - Take My Breath Away (4:12)
10. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon OST - A Love Before Time (English) (3:45)
11. Mask of Zorro OST - I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You (4:43)
12. Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero (5:50)
13. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You (4:33)
14. Vanessa Williams - Save the Best for Last (3:39)

So I hate romance novels but have a thing for power ballads.
There you are, girl genes! If Bonnie Tyler made it twice,
Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" should be on there too.
Leona Lewis singing "Bleeding Love" should be on there as well, but
the radio's giving it plenty of play already.

Not a bad list. I'm not fond of Wilson Phillips, and I prefer Dolly Parton's version of "I Will Always Love You", but not a bad list.

And I don't have the "girl genes" excuse....

Great power ballads. And done by women. I know most, but not all, of them. The first time I heard Vince Gill and Dolly Parton do I Will Always Love You, it took me a while to realize I was used to hearing it as a power ballad and not as a duet. Did you know Dolly Parton wrote that song and it's been a hit several times?

Have you heard Taylor Swift? She did just an amazing performance at the County Music Awards about an hour ago. I think she's just a high school senior, but she's an amazing talent.

Celine Dion. I'm pretty sure my other mixes are mocking me.

I probably have the Dolly Parton version buried somewhere on my external hard drive; I think I'd know it if I heard it. I would totally believe it's been a hit for multiple singers. I haven't heard Taylor Swift, no; sounds like she's worth looking into!

That sounds like a good driving playlist. Is that two versions of "Holding Out for a Hero", or different songs with the same name?

Two versions: the one from Shrek 2 and the '80s hit.

Some good, some not so good. I like some of her ballads, but she also does some interesting other stuff, especially in the earlier albums. I stopped following her after the fourth one (either "The Colour of My Love" or "Falling into You", I don't remember which), because I thought she was getting into a rut.

(Oh. The ones I have are the two I just mentioned, plus "Celine Dion" and "Unison". You could probably check out some of their contents at Amazon.)
