A Day to Rue

The thing about today's weather - so humid the sun fuzzed at the edges, so hot the air ran a tight race between smothering and sweat-soaking any fool outside - is that at least, if you're going to think back to summer 2009 as a season of excess, good and bad side effects and absolutely horrible, it's not weather that will be ruined by association. It's just a particularly good example of why Congress has an August recess, even in the days of air conditioning.
Today was unusually stressful, but at the end of the day I still had to feed K's cat Toby, a much-loved Siberian whose mousing skills are wasted on his many toys. As far as I can tell, Toby feels no particular interest in eating his dry food unless he can lead someone to his bowl and turn his dry food into performance art for his person's viewing. So I got a handful of caramel popcorn and snacked, at one with the cat, while he ate his food like a virtuous cat bending the world to his meek will. So shall we be conquered by our domesticated companions.
