I sat down Friday night, and every time I got up, I found a reason to stretch my legs without doing what I initially got up for. So the dish pile accumulated, the bags sat in the front room, the moving boxes littered the bedroom floor like the shrapnel of a transcontinental move bomb. (On Saturday night, the move bomb is still pretty evident.) Somewhere there's an umbrella I never got around to opening, despite Friday downpours.

It rained this week! Rain on Wednesday: drenching water, straight off the Pacific, so relentless the fountain on Market Street was liquid overkill. The sky was gray and steady when I walked in the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library - all six stories of library - and it was steady but worse when I walked across the street and inhaled an emergency gyro pie at the Gyro King across the street. It rained Friday, when I had the car and errands down the peninsula: the 280 freeway was very beautiful and romantic in the morning, when mist and clouds were sunlit, contrasting with blue skies and sort of flirting through the hills. I thought the ridiculously sentimental hyper-saturated landscape photographs were lovingly contrast-doctored, but no: the coast hills are that green. Driving through the clouds, fiddling one-handed with an mp3 player, verdant hills on either side - how awesome is California?

California was less awesome on the way home, after adventures in navigating yet another unfamiliar California city, with the downpour threatening my late-afternoon beach hopes. Fortunately, the rain slacked off and blue skies appeared while I was unloading the car, and I made it to sunny, windy Lands End,windbreaker, sweater, sundress, sneakers and all.

Saturday I poked at my cover letters and sent one out, affectionately red-inked JD's resume and cover letters, and mopped the kitchen floor. The kitchen rehabilitation will eventually get a post all to itself, but for now I have a project. Well, three projects: my job hunt, introducing JD to the fabulousness of job applications (dear hiring person, I am awesome. Hire me to add value to your company. Contact info here! Thanks, applicant), and going all Julia Child on a neglected kitchen. My goal is an offer by the end of April, and from the response I've gotten so far I don't think that's out of line.
