The LG Cosmos Touch's most attractive feature is its "free after rebate" price tag, but many of the features which are relatively standard now (USB charging / data port, Bluetooth, headset jack) were not so the last time I got a phone,so I am very excited by the possibilities of plug-and-backup. Despite my best attempts, I could not browbeat Verizon into magically activating my old phone's GPS, and retracing my steps in Golden Gate Park didn't unearth it. Since I regrettably failed to back up my contacts, I will be rebuilding my phone number list from scratch. It's disappointing, but it's also sort of a relief to know I won't be scrolling past numbers I haven't called since college.

If I had gone through the full process of phone withdrawal, I'm sure I might eventually have found some pluses to cell-free living, but a day and a half of phone deprivation merely enhanced my interest in smart phones and data plans. (I'm holding out for an iPad-like PC-ish clone, or maybe the thing that comes after a Droid X. Basically, I want a super-portable microcomputer.) So I am super-pleased to re-connect to the world, one number at a time. I'm still collecting contacts by email, PM or screened comment in the previous LJ/DW entry: if you have already contacted me you're in my electronic Rolodex.
