Mirabile is adorable. I love it for being light without being frothy, if that makes sense.
The "frontier life" is a little like The Sharing Knife, isn't it? Which gets back to Romance, Not My Genre. (Your genre is not my genre and that's okay.) I wonder if the mismatch is partially reader expectations; hand Jole to someone who isn't familiar with the Vorkosigan novels and they might have a different reaction.
