First haul from the icon project. Ten icons based on the works of Lois McMaster Bujold. The usual requests apply: please comment and credit; feedback/constructive criticism encouraged; an example of constructive criticism would be, "I can't read #6, try increasing the contrast." Some quotes have been tweaked for clarification; I'm aware of this. #9 is a LotR crossover, #10 includes mild profanity. If all that hasn't scared you off please stay for cookies and icons.

01. Fireworks! 02. Sarcasm much? 03. Hyper much?
04. Hallowed Hunt 05. Heavily-armed GFs 06. Expensive? Flowers are cheap.
07. Mirrors 08. True wealth 09. Imperfection
10. Honor/Reputation

Edit: Crediting guidelines are available in this post. If you're not certain how icon crediting works, please read them.

Constructive criticism:

General, you might want to look into pixel fonts or pixel editing for some of these.

2-contrast is a little low, but this may just be my personal preference for minimal amounts of transparency.

4-low contrast on the text.

6-I'd prefer a tighter line spacing.

9-I would prefer a pixel font, I will allow, however, that it IS readable.

10-I think I would have used something other than font size for emphasis. Was that sufficiently evil of me?

Pixel fonts are the Dark Side, hasn't anyone told you? More seriously, I think they'll get more use in the future, despite their fairly tech-y look. #2 is an oblique victim of my love for high-contrast backgrounds, and compensating same. #10: yes, you are. Would you have preferred changing fonts, font color or just going for that classy blinking text? *EG*

I must have been out hiking when the memo about pixel fonts being the dark side came out. I just consider them to be a tool in the icon toolbox...granted, not a very elegant tool, but a useful one, all the same.

For emphasis, I'd go with font weight or color, rather than something drastic like a different font, or worse, using blinkies or animation.

You're right about pixel fonts being inelegant. They work for some things (I'd use them for a Leo Graf quote in a heartbeat) but not others (see above).

I've seen people switch from sans serif to a script font to make a point. Color would be an interesting variation, too; it hasn't been done so much.

Blinkies are evil. Useful for flippant responses, though.
