[Poll #1142441]

I am desperately jonesing for a hardcore Linus Pauling academic biography along the lines of Julie Phillips' Alice Sheldon bio or Alexis De Veaux' Audre Lorde bio. No less than 10 footnotes per chapter; bonus points if it breaks 100 footnotes in at least one chapter while maintaining readability. If anyone hears of such a marvel, please pass it on to me.

Also, I want an analog wristwatch with a second hand and a timer function. It must either be cute in that clunky geek way or cute in that "goes with suits" way.

Finally, I hate ice storms. Good morning!

I bought myself a pack of rainbow colored Sharpies when I was visiting my parents in January.

I just couldn't resist!

Yay pink writing on tissue culture flasks with pink medium!! ;-p

Sharpies are awesome. Are you saying they don't have them in the UK?

But how do you read it? Personally, I'm going for a blue theme. Legible, passes professional muster and I like it a thousand times more than black ink.

It's a dark purply pink that I use on the flasks, etc. And then I use a lighter pink on the whitish autoclave tape.

The only problem is that Sharpies aren't quite good enough, the ink comes off a bit when sprayed with the 70% EtOH I have to use to sterlize everything before it goes into the hood! ;-)

Besides, I just love pink. I'm also using a bluish one on certain things. And I do have other colors as well. Just haven't pulled them out yet. ;-p

Aha. That makes more sense - I thought you were using hot pink on the culture medium flasks, at first.

70% ethanol wipes off almost anything. I attacked an ancient whiteboard palimpsest with a bottle of the the stuff once and managed to erase some of the caked-on old dry erase ink.

Yeah, that's probably why 70% Etoh is used to wipe stuff sterile!! :-)

But seriously, there are a few lab markers that will stay on even with 70% Etoh being sprayed on and wiped off repeatedly. And I use those most of the time!

So I take it OPM posted that it was closed? I guess that means John will be home soon.

Look at that timestamp: no joy for the feds or people going by OPM calls (http://www.opm.gov/status/). Open, unscheduled leave today. Give me snow or give me rain; I am more scared of ice than any other DC weather condition.
