This is what I wrote on the metro tonight:

Dear internet,

I hate my roommate. My commute is making me insane. And if Geico's rate quotes are a suitable guide, I am not buying a car in 2008. If you know someone renting a room in a metro-accessible location between Van Ness and Shady Grove, see me. If I can't walk to the metro in 20 minutes or less, please don't waste your time or mine.

I got home at 9 PM to a bathroom my roommate said he'd clean the weekend before last, the kitchen (needs mopping),the overhead fan my roommate left on in his disgusting room (clearly audible in mine), and saw a fat cockroach in my bedroom.

The failboat has sailed. This weekend I start packing. It's probably unrealistic to think I can be out by June 1st, but I will be moving before July.

I don't have any particularly helpful leads on rooms for rent, but if you're not already checking the Washington Post online listings, I would recommend doing so. They are often more extensive that the print version.

I've only got a small kitchen, half a living room, and a very messy bedroom to pack, but I'll be aggressively recruiting for loading/unloading assistance. (Friends, neighbors - no stone left unturned.)

Tonight is end of my rope night. Also I just got off the phone and rewrote my plans for the week for the second time today. It's definitely bedtime.

i wish i lived near you, at least to give you a couch to crash on for a few days. you'd probably go insane because i'm lazy with cleaning, but i promise there's never been a cockroach anywhere near my apartment. i just hate doing dishes, lol.

In the meantime, liberal use of a can of Raid around the apt might help. Spraying the boxes before you pack them might be helpful, if distasteful. Balking at that, do be sure that every item going into a box is bug-free, then tape-seal all the seams and edges with fanatic conviction.

Check the listings in The Gazette for Roommate Wanted and house sharing in the G'burg area. It's a little more focused than The Post. And the free Gazette comes out today.
