SATUDAY MORNING: To really stupid rumors (mightygodking) I bring really basic medical stats. Nail Palin on her political record; if she is raising her grandchild for her daughter, I really don't care that much. (I am waiting with bated breath for some Palin political scandal, because hi, Alaska: home of corruption worthy of the Mayors Daley; stooping to personal attacks makes me ask for people to stop being on my side.) Sunday ETA: huh. Just - what Scalzi said.

SUNDAY EVENING: Did an overnight trip to dad's. Dad just got back from looking at houses in Tucson; he and Second Wife made an offer on a short-sale. Second Wife was doing nothing I wanted any part of, so I didn't see much of her or her dogs. Or the horsies. (If you ever need to be convinced of the fundamental stupidity of a horse, try loading it into a horse trailer. If you ever need evidence of my willingness to judge you by your hobbies, watch my reaction to you trying to move your horse.) So I let dad use me as an excuse to try an Indian restaurant - so much pain there - saw the house-shopping pics, and dad's kitchen garden - why aren't the store cucumbers this snazzy? Why? - we chilled with soccer on HD, and eventually I took the hour and a half back home on car, bus and metro, loaded up with foodie things dad dumped on me.

TODAY: Cooking. Grocery runs. Baking. Food prep. My oven is running hot. Not on, cookie-making machine! Go over-fry my chicken, or something else I only marginally care about!

FOR MANY, MANY DAYS: book log. Er, July's. Watch this space for a special July/August book log double edition!

I'll agree readily with the lack of relevancy (mostly) of Palin's daughter's baby. Your Scalzi link really hits all the highlights there (especially what it'd look like if this were Biden's problem).

As for political scandal, look no further than Troopergate. Palin fired the chief of public safety for not firing a trooper who was divorcing her sister. Then she replaced the chief with someone who had to resign two weeks later due to sexual harrassment charges from the past (lack of vetting, anyone?). Apparently her tenure as major of Wasilla wasn't much better.

Just google Troopergate Palin for more info than you can shake a stick at. This isn't the only pre-emptory dismissal she's been involved with, and I expect it to be the tip of the iceberg.

...she's also associated with the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP) who want to leave the union.

My "What the hell is McCain thinking???" vibe has been hitting record-high levels these past few days. :P

Scalzi wins at blogging. He controls his content very well, and rarely (if ever) stoops to the cheap personal attacks.

I don't know what McCain was thinking, but if the Democrats can't win this election now, I'll be reacting in blinky bold capslock of rage.

THANK you YES to all of that (I found the whole thing incredibly distasteful and dumb), and thanks for the Scalzi link. Because, like you, I'm totally cynical about politics, I'm sure there is more, but I'm just not impressed so far. Do your research and call me next month, please.

Looking forward to the booklog! I have read all of Y now and have mixed feelings about it (though in general I quite liked it)... I am planning to post, someday; we'll see who wins the posting (verrrrry slow) race...

[livejournal.com profile] scalzifeed: a daily dose of sci-fi and levelheadedness.

Do your research and call me next month, please.

Yes, yes, word, yes. Bonus points for timing your "breaking news" of political scandal for maximum electoral devastation.

I have read all of Y now

You are ahead of me! The last collection hadn't been published in February, so I saved the ninth until the tenth was out, and then I got busy! Now I'm waiting for the library to get the 10th volume in.

and have mixed feelings about it

It's violent postapocalyptic shenanigans, with a side of geeky snark. I would be more concerned if you'd embraced it with no reservations.

I suspect you'll win the "slowest poster" award this time; I've got my log maybe half to 60% done.

hm - here I am not sure I agree, but mostly because I do not trust the masses, or the presses, with being able to tell political from personal, and I am so done with personal scandals erupting at convenient times. Please let's not have any more November revelations. Please! If it's sufficiently important and political, having a month to brood about it will make it worse, not better.

I'm good with postapocalyptic shenanigans (not a huge fan of graphical violence, but am willing to put up with it as long as it doesn't take over-- I mean, I adored Watchmen), and I love geeky snark (though the pop-culture snark often went woosh over my head-- not such a fan there). But... well... anyway... we'll talk once you've read 9 and 10.

I think that's a very astute observation; I am hoping for a string of stupid political decisions, but more likely will get a smattering of family "scandals" I don't really care about.

But... well... anyway... we'll talk once you've read 9 and 10.

Yes, let's.

Thanks for sharing the Scalzi love!
