Today's new low is that it's 11:30 at night, I want to go to sleep, but I don't want to go to bed because the only library fiction I haven't read yet is The Lies of Locke Lamora, and I'm not sure I'm going to like it.

Maybe it's time to find Citizen of the Galaxy and Doris Egans' Ivory novels*, set them opposite each other, and see which spontaneously combusts first.

*Think Pride and Prejudice, only not at all. There's magic and aliens (offscreen).

If you don't like The Lies of Locke Lamora, you'll be the first person to read it in my acquaintance who has not. Which would be interesting, actually.

I am very good at articulating the difference between quality and things I like, and also can be picky.

I was hooked by the time the first transaction of the book was completed. I'll be interested to know how long it took you. :P

Since I wound up reading 3 pages of The Fellowship of the Ring before passing out, it may be some time.

I rather liked Lies of Locke Lamora. It is isn't quite your typical fantasy in that it is about a con man in a fantasy setting.

I feel like I've read or heard of several (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fafhrd_and_the_Gray_Mouser) fantasy (http://www.sarahmonette.com/reviews-melusine.html) novels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thieves_World) with rather shady protagonists. What makes this one unlikely to trip my "plot and logic, what plot? What logic? And why do I care about these characters, anyway?" meter?
