Singing and Dancing and Explosions
Nov. 14th, 2009 12:30 amInstead of doing anything I was supposed to tonight, I watched movies. After this week, I deserved a night off.
First I watched the 2005 movie version of The Producers, which was a pretty direct stage-to-film conversion, but more importantly, Matthew Broderick's kind of adorable. You just want to pinch Leo Bloom's cheeks and maybe make out for a while. Unfortunately, I thought it was the 1968 edition, and the gay stereotyping and dumb swedish blonde jokes are even more wrong 40-some years later. Sadly, wiki tells me this is an improvement over the first movie. It entertained me, but I can see how other people might be less entertained. Eventually there may be icons.
I also watched The Bourne Identity since, quelle surprise, both need to be returned to the library tomorrow. As spy-thriler-chase movies go, this one was fun: it was a bit smaller-scale and less hyperbolic than the Bond flicks. Jason Bourne might die, but the world wouldn't end or whatever. So I liked that. I also liked checking off a significant mid-00's flick I missed in theaters. I might even watch the sequel(s) of my own free will.
