Friday Check-In

I am working a full time contract job; my commute is 70 minutes one way; I am taking seven credit hours of online classes. Almost anything wasn't class or work related fell off the to-do list this week. If something exciting happened to you, I probably haven't seen it, so feel free to share.

Now it's the weekend. Tomorrow is a study day, and Sunday? Sunday is cookie baking day.

I wonder how much schoolwork you could get done on that 70-min commute. Am mindful of a talk given years back by an Indian scientist. He said that in order to get any schooling after 4th or fifth grade, he had to hike over hills to the next village--two hours each way. He would put the strap of his bookbag over his forehead, presumably to balance the bag on the center of his back, open a book, and study or work while walking. He became a hero at home when he got into who's who and the name of his home village appeared in print for the first time anywhere.

Could this be the excuse for you to get an Ipad?

Experimenting with bus-BART-bus studying suggests I do better to relax on the commute, eat a quick dinner, and study at the library until it closes. If it's a test week, review of existing notes is possible, but draining.

Weekend studying is the real challenge. I should be able to get in hours both days, but only if I can overcome weekend lethargy and distractions.

Could this be the excuse for you to get an Ipad?

After my latest brush with iTunes, no. Ipad plus keyboard starts at about $600 for hardware, without additional warranties. That's a bit expensive for a black box I'm going to hate.
