If I keep making timely payments (much helped by e-pay), I get a student loan interest reduction in March 2011. Since I signed up for two evening courses with UC Berkeley Extension today, I am really looking forward to March. Immunology and introduction to medical microbiology are the first steps toward California Clinical License certification, but accredited classes aren't free. I am blessed with family who hear the words "educational loan" and open their wallets, because notice I didn't say anything about a full time job.

Going for more schooling instead of more working feels like I've rolled a critical life failure (see also School Spirit Skit 1 and Skit 2) but if I were working, I'd still be thinking about the certification. Clinical lab scientist is the sort of hands-on sub-specialty I'd like and be good at, with likely advancement and reasonable job security, especially in California.

Yet I still feel I'm flaking out and running back to something I know I can do (school) when I am not doing so hot at something with which I'm less familiar (job applications). There's no guarantee that I'll get first get into one of the CLS training programs, or later land in the downy nest of lab employment I spent a lot of time and money training for. Watch this space for a "working toward my MASTER'S MASTER'S" icon.

In the meantime, if anyone needs a San Francisco admin assistant, secretary, lab tech, what have you, contact me. I miss working full time and having benefits.
