Missed bus. Augh. Agonizing du jour: cameras round umpteen,
class presentation. Strategic considerations for presentation: you
don't want to be the first, you definitely don't want to be
last, but research time when you're feeling a little like the country
mouse is a good thing. March 11th is the day after Purim; I think
presenting with a hangover actually sounds quite pleasant. I think I
know which camera I want, and then I remember: spinny wheel
and viewfinder and clicky buttons.

My coworkers think I should get a car already. I think they're on to
something. And then I go back to drooling over cameras.

hahahaha! Ok, forget my last comment. Get the SX110 already! :) The spinny wheel is the most important, anyway!

[Five-year-old]But I wanna viewfinder...[/five]

In light of the electronics meltdown of the last two weeks (external drive keeling over, missing-like-maybe-in-trash remote for super-cheap "menu buttons optional" DVD player, work headphones) and the baby laptop's brush with Windows meltdown in January, I think I need to suck it up and go with the cheaper option. After all, I can always "borrow" dad's EOS (an XT / 350D (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/)) and see how I like it, and how long it takes him to notice. Unfortunately, since he's still looking at retirement houses, he might actually be using his camera.

Sadly, I sort of don't want a car. They're expensive when they're running, and break more often than my laptop. (See the "adventures of the baby laptop" tag for details.) I like my 20 minutes of reading time on the bus. What I really want is a household car, so I can exercise the option to take the car on nights and hump days, and not be stuck paying for tires, belts, gas, insurance, oil, transmission fluid, emissions, car taxes, towing, insurance copays, and all that jazz on one entry-level salary. I like having a positive cash flow.

Now, watch how fast my position changes once temperatures hit 80 F. (Ugh. Summer. Hideous, sticky, continental climate humidity. Ugh.) We'll see what my possible car downpayment looks like then. Until then, well. I picked my rental for public transit access for a reason.

Edit for breaking news: and oh, G10 sold elsewhere. SX110 it is!

I'm glad you got the camera settled! You'll be happy with the SX110 :)

They're expensive when they're running, and break more often than my laptop.

Oh man YES. I was shocked to find, when I did our budget, that car expenses (we have one car we actually use, and a second that we don't use but pay insurance for Just In Case) were our second largest expense, second only to airline travel expenses (and that only because we have two sets of parents who live on the other side of the country who demand visits, and friends who live on the other side of the country who keep getting married :) ).
